You are all going to read a SUPER OLD blog post that I never posted. Which is really funny because it was complete and everything, so I really have NO idea why I didn't post it. Original date the post was created: May 4th, 2017 Hey Twisters! Long time no see, huh? Sorry about that. I know I said that we were (hopefully) going to post weekly, but school happened, then when we were available we either procrastinated (MAINLY LOOKING AT ME /// HAHAHAH), remembered, but then later forgot (ALSO ME), or other excuses that I can't quite remember. (As I write this, I think of all the times I was watching Netflix shows - by the way, more show and movie reviews will be coming soon!!) But we're (mostly me) are back now! And ho Ho HO! do I have something truly special! A RAFFL- no. Just kidding. We're not doing a raffle. We have nothing to give right now, but depending on how much traffic our blog gets in the future, we'll think about it. *coughs* On to the actual post!!! In March/April (and some that's continued into May!), sakura's, also known as cherry blossoms, are blooming! If I'm correct, then the sakura's are still blessing Japan with their mystical beauty. Two weeks ago, I read an article by Joe, who is a staff writer at Japan Times, on how Tomika, a town in the Fukushima Prefecture, had cherry blossoms blooming. This is amazing, since Tomika was a place where the events of March 11th, 2011 really hit. I refreshed my memory on the happenings of that time on Britannica and in short, there was a huge earthquake, the most powerful one to have hit Japan, which caused multiple tsunami's to appear. Those tsunami's devestated some nuclear power plants in Fukushima which then exploded, causing the residents there to leave because of the toxic chemicals that started to disperse. But during this sakura season, Tomika has been re-opened to the public, after lots of diligent and hard work to clean up the damage that those events had created. This is, as the post said, is perfect because in Japan, spring represents a time of renewal and new beginnings, which is something that is truly happening in Tomika. There are still some parts of Tomika that the government has deemed unsafe for visitors, so those locations are blockaded to the public. The areas that are safe, which is a lot from what I could see/read, people are going to see 1) the beautiful tunnel of cherry blossoms that Tomika is blessed with and 2) the rebuilding efforts. If you want to check out the blog post, here is the link: Tomika: Full Bloom - Japan-Guide Have a great day, Twisters!! P.S. Hopefully, we'll stick to the weekly blog posts, but if you don't hear from us for a while, we're probably focusing on finals. For those of you who are also doing finals, good luck! HHAHAAA, LIKE THAT HAPPENED FOR THE BLOG!!! But now we have an actual schedule! ;3
0 Comments
The long anticipated schedule for this blog! (I was waiting for this for a LOOONG time, and I'm so happy to be finally able to finalize something that'll actually work!)
And there ya have it Twister's!!! Our finalized schedule!! Super excited to implement it! We'll begin to follow this on the week of February 5th. Post-wise, we are going to be uploading all the posts on their respective days at 6:00 AM CST. Also, I have said previously, our blog is still kind of under construction. We're finalizing our pictures and rewriting things that desperately need to be rewritten. We'll probably do a blog post where we've finally say "IT'S ALL DONE!!" and celebrate with virtual cake or something, I don't know. Somethin' will happen. Additionally!! (There's so much that I want to say, I'm so sorry!) Bianca and I might still post from outside of our schedule if we deem necessary. Bianca has told me that she's got a post coming up that she wants to put out before our schedule commences, so that's probably going to happen. So be on the look out for that. Alrighty, Twisters, there ya have it!! Our official blog schedule! See you soon on the beginning of a grand adventure!
I know, I know. This is strange! Why would I be writing about this? Well, in my Leadership class, I (again) have the wonderful opportunity to write something that would persuade another. And this is what I've chose to discuss. Why the particular subject of da video games? Well, I believe that there is a lot of hate and negativity on playing video games going around and I would like the ability to voice my thoughts and opinions on this subject. I was talking to a friend of mine and he said that he had "no life" because he played a lot of video games. And I thought about this. When I think of somebody that has no life, I think of someone who is a couch potato and watches shows and eats all day long. But he told me that his "no life" was spent by playing video games. Playing video games = "no life"? Sir, I think not. Why would immersing yourself in another world that our universe doesn't contain "not a life"?! How does learning important skills (some of which we will cover later on in this post) that can be taught in the comfort of you home "not a life"?!?! How is experiencing a life beyond your own, one that has different emotions, one that possibly bonds with creatures or plants, and watching them develop as a being "NOT A LIFE"?!?!?! *clears throat* And now, my fellow Twisters, here are the few reasons why you should play video games: |
In the world of video games, there are moments when it's going to get tough. And in those moments, you can't just look down at your controller and spam whatever buttons because you're confused (though this will happen many, many times; this has happened to me waaaaaay too much). So, as you continue to play video games, your hand-eye coordination becomes better. You've memorized what button is where, what each of those buttons do, and when a difficult situation arises, you will have everything down. | Another thing that is very evident in the world of video games are the puzzles. There are a lot of puzzles. Too many, in all honesty. One of the key features of the Legend of Zelda is the puzzles contained inside. And trust me, they do get tough (just try beating Hero Mode). In these types of situations, you'll need to think and use your knowledge that you've gained from the game and just basic logic (both will soon grow) to solve them. Puzzle-solving is also very wonderful if you ever want to tackle an escape room. These are known for being very tricky and you need to think outside of the box to solve them (just like in Fetch!). |
*throws hands up into the air pointing at the skills* See! Important skills!
A Visual Story
Have you ever read a book and bonded so much with the characters you felt as if you were travelling alongside them? Have you ever wanted to see what was actually happening and what the places actually looked like? Playing a video game lets you see all those things.
A video game is a book and a movie combined. It's a playable movie; it's a visual story. You still get very attached to the characters. You still get to cry with them. You still get to laugh with them. You still can experience heartbreak and sadness with them. But you can also see (in clear high definition, hopefully) what it was like for them. How it all, those emotions, those experiences, their position in life, came to be.
You're definitely not getting cheated out of an experience. Not at all.
You're getting an enhanced version of one.
Have you played video games before? If so, which one is your favorite? If you haven't, do you want to? Tell us in the comments!!
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has created an Advent Calendar for the Christmas Season. They created this calendar so that, leading up to Christmas Day, people could do acts of service of do some of the things that Christ did.
I discovered this Advent Calendar this past Sunday, as my bishop introduced it to all those that were in the congregation. I was very excited to start participating, because I love the thought of serving.
Service was always something that I really enjoyed. I found it very fun and I could do it with the people that I loved. So when this opportunity came, I new exactly what my first act of service was going to be:
Share it with all of you!
Light the World
|
I was so inspired by this video, it almost made me cry. (I didn't want to cry in my seminary class... so I tried to hold back the tears. ;3) When I saw this video, I wanted to do everything in my power to serve those around me, but I knew that I couldn't serve everyone in the entire world (because that was my inital feeling).
Writing this blog post on this was the least I could do, and I really wanted you all to 1) take part in this lovely act of daily service and 2) know that Bianca and I were still alive.
#LIGHTtheWORLD Advent Calendar
And what's so amazing about the acts of service is that technology can be used to help spread the word! If you want to be a part of this wonderful service opportunity, go start serving! But, if you want to let your friends know, use the hashtag #LIGHTtheWORLD. :3
I hope you take this chance to serve those around you and be as Christ was: a light to the world.
Matthew 5:14 - 16
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Let's start the Christmas season with a whole lot of service, joy, happiness and love!
My Japanese is going well, although I would like better sources for vocabulary and grammar (those are the two things I'm currently working on). Or maybe, I don't know, a teacher? As some of you might know, it's my goal to take a college course for Japanese at my local community college while in 10th grade. That is why I must get all A's on my report card. I'm an over-achiever when it comes to school. If I don't get an A or a B, I will be absolutely shattered, but I would still tell my parents that I got a low score, because they'll either help me, remind me of my goal, tell me to get help from a teacher if I'm really struggling with a certain concept, and a whole lot more.
I'm digitally editing a character that I drew! And let me tell you, *laughs*, I don't have anything fancy. No SAI, no Wacom Cintiq or Intuos, no Photoshop. Nada. Zilch. Nothing. All I've got is my handy-dandy, scanner, Paint (which is already installed on every computer), and my imagination. And truthfully, I am terrified. This is the scariest experience of my artist life. (I have several lives: Writer's Life, Artist's Life, Blogger's Life, Over-Achiever's Life, Crocheter's Life, Reader's Life, OTAKU's Life, Family Person's Life, and Outstanding-Amazing Friend's Life. I have nine lives unless someone can see more of my lives that I can't see... One might say I have nine lives. :D) Since I've never done this before (and since I have ZERO LAYERS. I didn't know what layers did before, but now I know that layers ARE A BLESSING!!! Do not take those beauties for granted!) I'm watching my sister (who is digital editing too) while she gives me tips, and I'm re-doing everything for the Umpteenth time. Though, I will survive.
I read a variety of good books this summer (don't worry, I'm gonna do some Book Reviews before school starts) and now I have found my favorite Female author: Katy Towell. I love her so much, that reading the two books she published were satisfaction for a week. Her books are all the scary, friendship, terrifying-suspenseful moments I could ever want in a book! :D Her website is called Skary and, I believe, she's working on another book (oh am I excited!).
I've had one for a while know but, I'm finally on Miiverse! I've put several posts from my gaming experiences on Demo's and full games, although they're all from Nintendo. I've posted some Style Savvy: Trendsetters and Fashion Forward, some Pokemon X and some other games as well. I'm trying to earn the money to buy some games (Animal Crossing: New Leaf is NEXT on my list. Unless someone convinces me otherwise), yet that's taking a whole lot longer than anticipated.
So yup! This is life. I hope all of you have a great rest of summer break!
みなさん、こんにちは!
Schools starts August 17th for me and Charisma. I am so steamed. I wanted school to start on August 15th and then I totally forgot about this 'stagger start' thing. Ugh. When I want school people, I want school. But, now that I think about it, I'm actually quite thankful. I can get ahead in Science (the subject that doesn't love me and I don't love it) and so that way I can better understand the content that I'm being taught and then I can get an A! :3 I'm ready school (except I don't have my planner just yet....).
My Japanese is going good. I'm trying to find a teacher on the site called iTalki, I have the teacher (is she a tutor?) that I want to study with but a one hour session cost 9 dollars. I'm not worried about the nine dollars part, I'm just worried that my mother won't let me use iTalki.
Capital Kings, an American pop, electronic and Christian pop group, released an album called (II) last year in October and I absolutely love this album. My favorite song so far has to be Northern Sky, then it would have to be Live For The Drop.
I haven't been writing lately, that's the reason I haven't updated My Writing Journey in quite some time. I'm thinking about editing Another Imagination soon, I just don't know how I'm going to print it... Why is that still a problem for me?
Surprisingly, I have NOT read much of anything this summer. I've read some Pokemon manga, but that's it. Well, now I've got something to do. I need to go see what books I can get at the library...
Well that's pretty much it! How's your summer going?
Bianca and I had the awesome opportunity to watch Nintendo's E3 live on Twitch on the 14th and the 15th. We knew that some awesome games were going to be introduced, demonstrated, and there was going to be some intense game-play, but what we saw was beyond anything I had imagined!
At Nintendo E3 Day 1, these two games were shown:
Pokemon Sun and Moon
Pokemon Sun and Moon @ E3 2016
and the new
Legend of Zelda
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild @ E3 2016
First Up:
Pokemon Sun and Moon
Anyways, the trailer showed the new Alola Region, consisting of 4 different islands, one being man-made, the cute new Starter Pokemon: Rowlet, Litten and Popplio, the awesome Legendary Pokemon: Solgaleo and Lunala, the options of choosing your hero or heroine (which now has 4 different looks instead of the 3), and some of the characters that you'll be encountering (like the Professor, his assistant, and your new friend in Alola).
The trailer was truly outstanding, but then they jumped into gameplay. I got to say, this has got to be my first time really watching Pokemon gameplay (I watched a bit of Pokemon X and Y, but really just the beginning) and it was great! It was also Nintendo Treehouse's first time for live gameplay of Pokemon! It was super great to be a part of that, even if Bianca and i were at home watching on the couch. :P
The Pokemon game-play had so many pluses going for it that portraying it all will be kind of difficult. So let's just start with the first one on my list (because I took notes so you all can hopefully experience the awesomeness):
- Great Graphics - The graphics for the Pokemon games have been vastly improving, but this game's graphics are pretty amazing. The simplicity of the detail is evident in the way the characters and the Alola region were developed and created. Everything is vibrant and capturing, instantly drawing your attention and mindset into the world of Pokemon from the very beginning.
- Wonderful, Catchy Music - The music really does transport you into the Alola region. The music presented in the game has a very tropical feel to it, giving the player that sense of adventure and excitement. The music in the battles are also beautifully done. You feel the intensity, but also the enjoyment of battling.
- Intriguing Pokemon Battles - Like I have said before, I've never really seen Pokemon game-play, so when I got to see a Pokemon battle, I was shocked at how complex, yet simple the battle mechanics were. For Pokemon Sun and Moon, they have added a new element: You can see yourself and your Pokemon battle. I found out that this was a new feature in the Pokemon series and I had always thought that it was like that from the beginning. (See, I'm a novice at all things Pokemon.) That's not all, you are able to constantly check you and your opponents power status, their accuracy, etc. which can all be viewed on the touch screen.
- Multiplayer Battle Mode: Battle Royal - When they introduced this at Treehouse, I was so excited. The way Battle Royal works is that there are 4 players, each one picks up to 3 different Pokemon, and they battle with one Pokemon at a time. Battle Royal is a free-for-all battle, so the first trainer who loses all of their Pokemon signals the end of the battle. Though the way the winner is determined, the game tallies up how many Pokemon each player has defeated and how many Pokemon they have on their team. Whoever has the highest number is the winner of the Royal.
- Customize Outfits - People. This is what we've ALL been waiting for. They have finally given us the ability to customize our outfits. This was evident during the Battle Royal game-play that Treehouse did. I don't have a lot of information about this, but I know that the outfits that were seen are adorable.
Next is the Highly Anticipated:
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
|
The Legend of Zelda games are held dear to many gamer's hearts, and I'm quite sure that this game is going to join that fast growing list.
Treehouse members, who was joined by the amazing Mr. Aonuma and Mr. Miyamoto, said that this game was to break the barriers between all past Zelda games. This got me super excited because in the trailer the super long bridge that was shown was seen and used in Twilight Princess. Then my mind got theorizing about how all the games could be connected and this timeline was created: (Spoilers Ahead!) Ocarina of Time - because it's the beginning, Marjora's Mask - Link is searching for Navi because she left him at the end of OoT, Hyrule Warriors - Link's admittance to the Hyrule Knights, Twilight Princess - reason being the Hero's Shade is said to be Link from OoT, then Skyward Swork - The floating islands were also in Twilight Princess, also it's a great progression with technology, lastly this game. It all sort of ties in. You know, with creativity. But anyways, moving back to the report.
The rest of Day 1 for Nintendo's E3 was spent viewing gameplay of the long awaited Legend of Zelda game. Because of that, I have a lot of points to go over on my list. So instead of completely boring you, I'm going to shorten them quite a bit:
- HUGE Open World - And I mean massive. It's crazy huge people. For the whole game preview, we only got to see what the E3 Demo area was, which was the Plateau. Guys, they didn't get to explore all of the Plateau because it was that big. And, according to IGN, Breath of the Wild's open world is 12 time bigger then Twilight Princess's. Twilight Princess was unbelievable big. So this, this is crazy big. Kudos to the designers. That takes a lot of time and that detail, crazy amazing.
- Outstanding Graphics - The detail in every is gorgeous. They actually to their time to deliver the awesomeness that the fans and players have been craving for. Everything is subtly bright, nothing too eye shattering, but it does instantly grab the attention of the player because of the color and the detail of the surroundings. You really do feel as if your there, exploring the changed world you awoke to.
- Survival Game - This game is very different from previous Zelda titles. When you cut the grass, hearts nor rupees come out, you're really just cutting the grass. Because of this, you'll need to find different ways to regain your hearts, and that also means you can't just start hitting enemies. They don't drop hearts either, so you'll have to think strategically to survive. To add to to the element of survival, to regain hearts, you must find and/or cook food. But there's more! There is a day to night cycle and also a weather cycle. These cycles affects the enemies in that area and also the terrain. So seriously, you will need a strategy. Though that's not the end! :P You scout out enemies camps and, using the Sheikah Slate, you can evaluate and identify the power and health of an enemy. Once you attack an enemy, they will probably always drop their weapon, and you can use their weapon against them. But, like I said so many times before, this is a survival game. So all weapons that you gain will eventually break after a certain number of uses. You can gather multiple different weapons, but they'll all break in the end.
- Amiibo Compatible - This game also has Amiibo compatibility. The Twilight Princess Wolf Link and Midna Amiibo can be used in this game. If you tap it in, then you can get Wolf Link as a adventure companion, because you are really going about this whole game alone. If you've played the Cave of Shadows, the hearts that you have saved on that game will transfer over to this game (that was my understanding, in the least). If Wolf Link dies, then it will take 1 day in real life for you to able to use the Amiibo for Wolf Link to come back. There are also some new Amiibo coming! Archer Link, Rider Link (Link is wearing a hood... :P), and a Guardian. These Amiibo that are coming are absolutely beautiful!
- Creative Element - A lot of creativity went into the creation of this game, so I wanted to say just a little bit about it, because I can't whatsoever portray the creativity that game has into words. The Treehouse members noticed that the art-style of the game was deeply based off of Japanese-style animation. You get that feeling when playing through the game, or watching someone else play. Most Japanese-style animation puts a lot of time an effort in giving the viewers/player the best that can be given (or all the things I've seen). Also, in the background there is piano music. This gives the game an emotional effect, and it also matches the surroundings you're in. Again, kudos to all the people who worked on this game.
There's more game excitement coming up in a few days. Because Day 2 of Nintendo's E3 covered a lot more games, I'm probably going to put Day 2 into quite a few parts. So be on the look out for those! The other posts will be in the "Game Reviews," just to give you all a heads up!
Also! I want to know all of your opinions on what Bianca and I should call you. Like Parker Games' followers are called Jeffery's, so we wanted to do something like that. Here it is:
Are you looking forward to any of these games? Tell us in the comments!
Every time summer rolls around I feel like doing absolutely nothing. Which is bad because I want to learn Japanese, I have a blog to keep updated (which reminds me, I recently watched X-Men: Apocalypse several days ago and did a movie review about), and I work for a lady from my church. Ugh, it's terrible.
I got my school report card! I have all A's and one B (thankfully, this B is in Science, not math). Like I've been telling you all, if I get most to all A's in 9th grade, I will be able to take a college course of Japanese in 10th grade. Eeeh~! I'm so excited.
My Japanese is going very well. I'm proud of my progress and I am planning on taking the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N5 next year (2017), but I have to run it through my parents first. Although, it's going to be tough because the JLPT only does it once a year (not twice like in Japan and some other countries) and it's ONLY on the first Sunday of December. That's going to be a big problem for my family. (Kemushi-chan/Loretta did a video about the JLPT)
I haven't done any writing at all lately. I'm thinking about doing some this week or some time next week. I just want to write. I want to edit Another Imagination, but it's like 48 pages and no one is willing to print it for me. I've got to find some way to print up those pages, that way I can print and edit that fantastic book. Honestly, I don't remember much about the book, so it's going to be a lot of fun re-reading a book I wrote. :3
Oh! Me and my family decided to start watching Once Upon A Time. Let me tell you. This show is greatly terrible. The only reason I say terrible is because this show is way messed up. But I love it none the less. One of us should have a show review for it soon.
Well, that's it for today, thanks for reading!
Life is going really great. I'm finished with math, literature/G.U.M. (G.U.M. is grammar, usage, and mechanics), and I'm finished with science! I need some help with Geography (my mother's going to help me with that) and then I'm finished! It feels good to be done. Also, Charisma is going to take a break from activities for a while, meaning she won't be blogging (or drawing) until she's finished with school.
Me and my sisters watch this youtuber called Matthias and he is amazing. I watch him daily because he makes me laugh (a lot) and I also LOVE watching his daily vlogs that he does with his wife (who happens to be the outstanding Amanda Faye, I love her channel too!).
My Japanese is going really well, although I had to pause because my parents thought I was going to too many Japanese sites (I kept getting done with school early. I'm sorry that they didn't like my good grades). My parents are really glad that I have good scores, they just wanted me to be finished with school first. And honestly, it didn't bother me that much. I could get done with school quite early and that's what I planned to do with Charisma (AND BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE... WE'RE ALMOST DONE).
I've got a question, does anyone know what a sunshine package is? Some call it a Sunshine Care Package, but usually it's to brighten someones day. I want to send a Sunshine Package to Matthias and Amanda Faye. :D I'm excited. Like really excited. So, who would you send a Sunshine Package to and what would you put inside the package?
Alright, thanks everyone! I'm going to be posting soon in Writing Journey, just to let you know! :3
We're going to audition to be a part of High School Musical 4. And, boy, am I excited. And nervous. And really happy. Okay, I'm have a lot of feelings towards this, but hey, I'm gonna give it my best go and I'm going to love EVERY MINUTE.
And if you didn't know that they're doing auditions, you should go do it (btw, you need to be around 14 - 17, have the Disney Applause app, find a song that fits your vocal chords--only do a verse and the chorus--, and practice the script. More info about auditioning here). I've always wanted to be a part of Disney, it would amazing if Charisma and I were part of the cast. :3
School's going really good. I've got a A's in everything but science (I've got a low B which I need to start getting a high B.... because bad things are going to happen if I don't). I'm trying to get done with school around May 18th, which, if I do, would be GREAT. The only thing I'm having trouble with is my Geography assignment. I have to plan a dream vacation. Sounds easy, right? Well, I still think it's kind-of easy, but I've been hitting some bumps. I've got to plan this vacation down to the slightest detail and that's going to be really hard (mean finding pictures of certain places, I have to record the weather, the average precipitation, etc.). And my maximum budget is 10,000 dollars and the minimum I have to spend is 8,000 (keep in mind I can't go over budget, 5% can be spent for gifts/souvenirs and 10% can be used for food, while the rest must be used for hotel, airline tickets, car rental, etc.). You get the idea.
I'm still having my major writings block (wanting to write something, but avoids writing at all times, you can read my small post at My Writing Journey). Although, early this week I was able to write a small bit for a new story. That made me really happy. I'm actually really surprised that I wanted to write this blog post, because I've been wanting to do it for a long time now.
Learning Japanese
The site's that I'm using (apart from the first Learning Japanese):
- Jisho.org
- This is an online Japanese dictionary (which I tend to go to often) and I love it. It looks slick, clean (meaning that it doesn't look like your gonna get a virus and you won't) and has absolutely everything.
- Rikaikun/Rikaichan (depending on what browser you use. -kun is for Chrome and -chan is for Firefox)
- THIS IS THE BEST INVENTION EVER. This is an add-on for Chrome or Firefox (which I literally just stated...) and, what it does, is when you roll over any kanji, hiragana or katakana (if the hiragana and katakana are NOT in a sentence, I don't think it'll pop up anything), and it'll tell you the pronunciation and the definition.
- The Japanese Page
- Basically just like every other Japanese learning site. Has some good resources, but it's a bit cluttered (which, to me, always looks like it's going to have a virus), but it's not that bad. I've gone to the site several times and I haven't got a warning.
- Japanese Level Up (Jalup)
- This website tries to make learning Japanese into some role-playing game and it looks like a really good way to learn Japanese but I like more interactive methods of study... And when I really want to learn something, I don't have a lot of patience. Cause, I want to learn now.
- Japanese Lentil
- I absolutely love this place. I'm working on Words for Kanji - Top 25 with this site and it is so helpful. Repetition is truly your best friend when learning a new language, so this site is quite helpful. Once I'm finished (no one is ever truly 'finished') with learning the kanji, I'm going to try and give my hand a go at katakana.
Who We Are
We are twin sisters who like to do almost anything! Inspiring people to get out their creativity is our forte and we strive to travel on magnificent journey through words on a page. Exploration is the doorway to opportunity and the endless possibilities of helping and reaching out to others is something that we endeavor to create. This crazy blog of ours is one of the many ways we hope to achieve that goal.
So, you ready to get crazy?
